Jonathan M. Cohen, originally from Ireland (born July 1953) completed his BA (Mod) and PhD degrees in Geology from Trinity College Dublin, in 1976 and 1979 respectively. Currently, he is a consultant Petroleum Geoscientist based in Israel and Spain with research interests in the development of Satellite Remote Sensing as an onshore petroleum exploration technique. His main professional experience is in the area of Reservoir Geology & Sedimentology pertaining to Oil and Gas exploration and field development. Previously he was Executive VP Exploration of President Energy plc., focused mainly in Argentina. This followed an extensive period (1988-2004) in a variety of positions in Geoscience with Shell International based in Holland working on the Unitisation of the giant Groningen Gas field; Shell Research developing a new 3D geological modelling system; Shell New Zealand leading a team developing the Maui and Kapuni gas fields during which time he served as President of the SPE NZ section; an extended posting in Nigeria where he led a multidisciplinary team of petroleum engineers responsible for special studies and field development planning of onshore oil fields; in the USA working on the re-development of the Ram Powell field in the deep water Gulf of Mexica; back to Holland in Shell’s Training Centre as Course Director. Before Shell he was with Marathon Oil UK starting in 1982 as a development geologist working on the development of the complex Brae oilfields UKCS and in 1986 he was appointed as Senior Lecturer in MSc course in Petroleum Geoscience at Imperial College London. He is a Fellow of the Geological Society, member of the PESGB and SPE.
